In short: A bed rail is a support that fits to the side of the bed to help someone turn, sit up and get in and out safely, and to give reassurance against rolling out. Mobility Co supplies bed rails, bed sticks and bed poles across Melbourne, and can pair them with the right bed. See them at our Cheltenham showroom at 2/136 Keys Road, or call 1300 225 203. We work with NDIS, Home Care Package, Support at Home and private customers.
Getting in and out of bed is one of the most common places a fall happens at home, and it is also one of the easiest to make safer. A bed rail or a bed stick gives a firm handhold to pull up on, steady against, and turn with, so a movement that had become a worry feels secure again. This page explains the options and how to choose one that genuinely fits the bed and the person.
Bed rails need to match the bed and be fitted correctly to be safe, which is exactly why it helps to see them in person. At Mobility Co we can show you how each type works, check it against your bed, and if getting in and out has become hard we can talk through whether an adjustable bed would help even more.
Bed rails
A bed rail runs along the side of the bed to give a long handhold and a barrier that helps prevent rolling out. Many fold down out of the way when they are not needed, and the better ones slot securely under the mattress rather than needing the bed drilled or modified. Some come with a fabric organiser pouch that keeps glasses, a phone and a remote within reach, so there is less reason to get up in a hurry. We keep a small range and can advise on and supply the right rail for your bed, so ask us and we will help you match it safely.
Bed poles and bed sticks
A bed pole, also called a bed stick, is a single sturdy handle beside the bed to grip while pulling up to sitting or standing. It is compact and unobtrusive, ideal where a full rail is more than the person needs, and a real help for anyone whose main difficulty is that first push up from lying down. Ours is simple to position and stays firmly in place.

How to choose a bed rail safely
The most important thing with a bed rail is a proper fit. It needs to suit the bed, sit firmly, and leave no gap that a limb could slip into, which is why we like to check it against your actual bed rather than guess. Consider whether the person needs a full length rail for turning and a barrier, or just a single handle to pull up on. Think about whether it folds away, how it attaches, and who will be nearby. If needs are more complex, or funding requires it, an occupational therapist can advise, and we are happy to work alongside yours.
Why choose your bed rail with us in Cheltenham
A bed rail is a safety item, so it is worth getting right rather than ordering blind. We keep options on the floor, show you how each fits and folds, and make sure it suits the bed you have. If getting in and out of bed has become the real problem, we can also show you adjustable beds that raise the person to a helpful height, which often solves more than a rail alone. If funding is part of the picture we can help you understand NDIS, a Home Care Package or Support at Home, and we support DVA clients too.

Excellent, highly skillful team who understand the specific needs of the disabled and elderly. The furniture is very well engineered and the team is able to explain how to use their chairs and beds in a way which supports the huge varieties in people's individual needs and body shapes. My grandpa recently bought an electric mobility scooter from Mobility Co in Cheltenham, and he couldn't be happier. He said the team was incredibly patient, friendly, and took the time to help him find the right mobility scooter for his needs and height. They answered all of his questions and explained the different options and what to look for and never made him feel rushed or pressured. Seeing the range of scooter options in the showroom made it easy for him and mum to find the right scooter. If you're looking for a mobility scooter in Melbourne, I'd definitely recommend visiting Mobility Co. The service was genuine, professional, and made the whole process easy for both my grandpa and our family.

Our family bought an adjustable bed and mobility scooter for my grandpa from Mobility Co and the whole experience was fantastic. Great showroom in Cheltenham, genuine advice with no pressure, and delivery and set up were sorted within days. Grandpa loves both, he's more comfortable at night and getting out and about again. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

We had an excellent experience with Mobility Co. Daylan was fantastic in helping my parents choose a mobility scooter, an adjustable bed, and a recliner. Nothing was too much trouble, and he truly went above and beyond to make the process easy for us. He even offered to bring equipment to us if getting to the showroom was difficult. When we visited the showroom, we were given plenty of time to try everything without feeling rushed, and the team made us feel very welcome by offering refreshments. The service didn't stop after the purchase. Daylan personally visited before delivery to check there were no access issues, and then came back afterwards to make sure everything was set up properly and to explain how to use the equipment again. The customer service was outstanding from start to finish. Daylan's kindness, patience, and genuine care made all the difference. We highly recommend Mobility Co to anyone looking for quality mobility equipment and exceptional service.
