In short: If one or both of you would benefit from an adjustable bed but you still want to sleep side by side, you can. The most popular option is two adjustable beds placed together as a split king or split queen, so each of you can raise or lower your own side independently. A box-on-box design lets the two beds sit flush with no gap down the middle, and a single queen or king headboard over the top makes them look like one normal bed. Once the doona is on, you honestly cannot tell it is two beds. We measure, deliver and set it all up in your home. Call 1300 225 203.
You do not have to give up sharing a bed
A lot of couples worry that needing an adjustable bed means separate rooms, or a clinical, hospital-looking bed in the bedroom. It does not have to be either. Side-by-side adjustable beds let you keep sleeping together, keep the room looking like your room, and still give each person exactly the support and positioning they need. For many couples it is the difference between staying in the same bed and not.
The most popular choice: two adjustable beds side by side
By far the most popular setup is two adjustable beds placed together, either as a split king (two long single beds making up a king width) or a split queen. Each bed adjusts on its own, so one of you can raise the head to read while the other lies flat, and each side has its own comfort. We set this up with the Aspire ComfiMotion Activ Care Bed as a split king, and the Avante Ergo Adjust Lolo Bed as a split queen option.
In most cases we recommend two adjustable beds rather than one adjustable and one standard, because:
- It is future-proofed. Even if only one of you needs the adjustment now, the other bed is ready the day that changes, with nothing more to buy.
- You each keep independent control. No compromise on positioning, and no disturbing each other when one of you moves.
- It is far easier to make. Each bed takes its own fitted sheet, so you are not wrestling a sheet across one enormous mattress. This is a bigger deal day to day than most people expect.
- It stays flexible. The two beds can be separated later if you ever need to.
How we make two beds look like one
This is the part people are surprised by. The bases use a box-on-box design, so the two beds sit flush against each other with no gap in the middle to roll into. We then fit a single queen or king headboard across both beds, so from the front it reads as one bed, not two. Put your usual doona or quilt over the top and it looks and feels like a normal double bed. No gap, no clinical look, just your bedroom as it should be.

One adjustable bed with a companion bed
If only one of you needs the adjustment and you would like to keep the cost down, we can pair a single adjustable bed with a matching, non-adjustable companion bed at the same height, side by side under one headboard. It works well and looks the same from the outside. In practice, most couples still end up preferring two adjustable beds for the future-proofing and the easier bed-making, but the companion option is there if it suits you better, and we will talk you through both honestly.
Choosing the mattresses
Split king and split queen come with a choice of mattresses, and comfort is personal, so we help you match the right feel for each of you. Because the two sides are separate, you can even choose a slightly different mattress on each side if your preferences differ. Our adjustable beds guide covers the basics of choosing.
We set it all up in your home
We come out, measure the room so we get the width right, then deliver and install the beds, fit the headboard, and take the packaging away. You are welcome to try the beds first in our Cheltenham showroom or with a free in-home demonstration, and there is a free assessment and a personalised suitability test so we get the choice right for both of you. Funding through the NDIS, Support at Home or DVA may apply, and we can work with your occupational therapist and provide compliant quotes. See our funding guide.

Common questions
What is a split king adjustable bed?
A split king is two long single adjustable beds placed together to make up a king width. Each side adjusts independently, so you each control your own head and leg positions, while a box-on-box design and a single headboard make it look like one bed.
Can you make two adjustable beds look like one normal bed?
Yes. The bases sit flush against each other with a box-on-box design so there is no gap in the middle, and we fit one queen or king headboard across both. With a doona over the top, you cannot tell it is two beds.
Can we have one adjustable bed and one normal bed?
Yes. We can pair a single adjustable bed with a matching non-adjustable companion bed at the same height, side by side under one headboard. It is a good way to keep costs down if only one of you needs the adjustment, though most couples prefer two adjustable beds for the future-proofing and easier bed-making.
Is a split king or split queen better?
It comes down to your room size and preference. A split king gives more width and space, while a split queen suits a smaller room. We measure the room with you and help you choose, and you can try both.
Can adjustable beds for couples be funded?
The person who needs it clinically may be able to fund their bed through the NDIS, the Support at Home AT-HM scheme or DVA, usually with an occupational therapist assessment. The second bed is often self-funded. See our funding guide, and we can provide compliant quotes.

My grandpa recently bought an electric mobility scooter from Mobility Co in Cheltenham, and he couldn't be happier. He said the team was incredibly patient, friendly, and took the time to help him find the right mobility scooter for his needs and height. They answered all of his questions and explained the different options and what to look for and never made him feel rushed or pressured. Seeing the range of scooter options in the showroom made it easy for him and mum to find the right scooter. If you're looking for a mobility scooter in Melbourne, I'd definitely recommend visiting Mobility Co. The service was genuine, professional, and made the whole process easy for both my grandpa and our family.

Our family bought an adjustable bed and mobility scooter for my grandpa from Mobility Co and the whole experience was fantastic. Great showroom in Cheltenham, genuine advice with no pressure, and delivery and set up were sorted within days. Grandpa loves both, he's more comfortable at night and getting out and about again. We had an excellent experience with Mobility Co. Daylan was fantastic in helping my parents choose a mobility scooter, an adjustable bed, and a recliner. Nothing was too much trouble, and he truly went above and beyond to make the process easy for us. He even offered to bring equipment to us if getting to the showroom was difficult. When we visited the showroom, we were given plenty of time to try everything without feeling rushed, and the team made us feel very welcome by offering refreshments. The service didn't stop after the purchase. Daylan personally visited before delivery to check there were no access issues, and then came back afterwards to make sure everything was set up properly and to explain how to use the equipment again. The customer service was outstanding from start to finish. Daylan's kindness, patience, and genuine care made all the difference. We highly recommend Mobility Co to anyone looking for quality mobility equipment and exceptional service.
